Dax Shepard tried to get hiccups under control for two days -- and it was a nightmare

Actor and comedian Dax Shepard says he lived out one of those childhood nightmares by experiencing hiccups for more than two days straight.

According to the 40-year-old, having hiccups from Friday morning to Friday afternoon (1:50 p.m. to 5:04 p.m.) was a nightmare I grew up with. I remember my mom saying, “Get your hiccups under control.” Well, I know what she’s talking about.

Of course I didn’t stop hiccups. All the power was with them and they would yank me right out of my seat and out of my car and anywhere I tried to sit.

The newlywed co-star of ABC’s “The Odd Couple” told Fox News’ “Outnumbered” that at some point, he really hit a wall.

“There was a point where it seemed like they’d been here before and were able to figure out the problem,” he shared. “I think I pretty much hit rock bottom. I said, ‘If I can’t get my hiccups under control, I think I’ll go to the hospital.’”

But he made it through and released in a time more measured than one would think.

“It was a long road of good karma and it was a beautiful thing. I got to go home and I got some sleep and hung out with my daughters and went to church that Sunday,” he laughed.

Sherman was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, a condition in which the body has an immune reaction to an overactive thyroid. His hiccups were a symptom of the disease and could’ve kept him from his “Odd Couple” co-star Thomas Lennon’s funeral in June.

“It had been a bummer,” the “Children’s Hospital” star revealed. “You’ve never really seen my mind go completely into shock. That night I drove to the airport, flew into L.A. I called the funeral home to see if Thomas [Lennon] was there. I said, ‘Hey, I’m in town, I’ll fly down.’ I didn’t know anything. It was very emotional.”
