Man dies after being shot by police in broad daylight near Buckingham Palace

A man is dead after being shot by police following a shooting in broad daylight near Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday, the Evening Standard reported. The police operation took place near the 6th floor of a building, which is used by members of the royal family, the Evening Standard added. The investigation started after a car caught fire in the area, and officers were called to investigate, it was reported. “The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) can confirm that officers attended the scene after receiving a report of a car catching fire,” the Evening Standard reported. “During the course of the investigation officers discharged a firearm in the presence of a person.” An initial report indicated that the man was inside the car but “later said he had been shot as he approached officers,” the Evening Standard added.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that the man had died from his injuries and said officers were investigating whether the shooting was lawful, The Guardian reported. No officers were injured. The spokesman said the investigation was still in its early stages and “we are following a number of lines of inquiry.”
